Spearmint (Mentha spicata) also known as garden mint or common mint, is an aromatic, herbaceous, rhizomatous, perennial that belongs to the family Lamiaceae. Spearmint is native to the Balkan Peninsula and Turkey but has now naturalized in much of Europe, Asia, parts of northern and western Africa, North America, and South America.
Spearmint has many health benefits. It contains vitamins A, C and folate, antioxidants, nutrients and also minerals like Iron, Manganese Copper and Potassium all of which are essential to maintain a healthy body. These properties can also help to alleviate a multitude of health problems such as, symptoms of nausea, indigestion, wind, headache, toothache, cramps, and sore throat. It can also be applied topically to the skin, this can help to reduce swelling due to nerve or muscle pain.
