Filipendula ulmaria commonly referred to as Meadowsweet is a perennial herb found in damp areas across Europe and Western Asia, where it is native to. It has also become naturalized in North America. Meadowsweet is most common across the British Isles where it is able to thrive due to the predominantly wet climate. The herb has a long history of use as a flavouring agent and strewing herb, it has been used In preparations such as jams, vinegars, beers, wines, and meads, it was also a favourite of Queen Elizabeth I who enjoyed its scent in her chambers. Herbalists value the herb for its rich incipient profile which includes: salicylic acid, flavone glycosides, essential oils, and tannins.

    Why decoctions?

Of the three main extraction methods used to produce herbal remedies, decoctions are simply the best. Macerations use solvents which may leave harmful residues in the end product, tinctures contain alcohol which is a systemic poison. Decoctions extract mineral salts and bitter principles through simmering herbs in our own distilled water for a prolonged period. The entire process takes 15 hours, is labour intensive so not conducive to mass production which is why herbal decoctions are uncommon on line. They contain far higher levels of active ingredients, no alcohol and can be made from hard plant parts unlike infusions. Our decoctions are made in small batches from organic ingredients by our fully qualified herbalist. They are also a superior form of supplementation than tablets or capsules, as most have artificially made ingredients, contain filers, flowing agents, excipients binding agents and preservatives. Also they often contain only one active ingredient neglecting the fact that molecules work synergistically in the body. Perhaps one of the most overlooked factors when manufacturing supplements from fibrous herbs is the fact that a large portion of individuals will struggle to absorb the beneficial compounds due to suboptimal digestion caused by compromised gut health. The extended extraction process involved in brewing decoctions makes these compounds much easier to absorb for the average person. Our qualified Herbalist uses only our own zero ppm quad filtered distilled water, all equipment used is stainless steel and our decoctions are bottled into steam sterilised UV resistant pharmaceutical grade glass bottles, which obviates the need to use preservatives of any kind. Be very careful not to touch the top of the bottle or the inside of the lid against anything or decant it into any container or jug that has not been steam sterilised unless the decoction is to be consumed immediately.

This is an entirely natural additive and preservative free product, do not contaminate the inside of the bottle or lid with a finger, never return decanted decoction back into the bottle, store in the fridge after opening. Use within 6 weeks of opening.
